Probably not going to change the designs of these kids anymore. Not for a while, anyway.

A POSSIBLE BACKSTORY (made up mostly by me, feel free to add, Alex!)

Deringer and Cello have been friends since forever. When Deringer's parents die, the police dismiss it as mutual suicide, but Deringer thinks otherwise! He works hard for several weeks, figuring out how were his parents killed. At first, Cello thinks her friend is just looking too hard for closure, but as Deringer insist on her assistance, she realizes that he might not be as crazy as she thought...

Eventually, Deringer proves to the police that it was possible for a bullet to ricochet off the lamp post and into the second story room, killing the two both in an instant. And the only one capable of this shot is Deringer's marksmanship teacher, Octavius Pierce!

After the success of that case, Deringer began to think: if he could solve the murder of his parents, what's to stop him from solving other mysteries in the world? Using his old home as a new office, Deringer set up shop for the brand new Ambrose Detective Agency. As soon as he picked up his first case, however, Deringer realized a fatal flaw - he can only solve mysteries that involved guns! Anything else is, well, a complete mystery to him.

At a tea house, Deringer complains to Cello about the complexity of the case. To his surprise, however, Cello comes up with a simple solution to the mystery! Deringer asks Cello to become his partner in his detective agency, but she declines, stating that she simply "prefers to not have unwanted attention." After much pleading and whining, Cello sighs and agrees to become a full-time partner, so long as all the credit for the mystery solving goes to him and not her.

Sounds good...I think cello needs a more complicated background story, some sort of mystery of her past, a reason for why she doesn't want attention....somehow when reading this I was reminded of Kakashi from Naruto...don't ask lol.

The problem with that is I don't want to make her *too* special; I'd prefer to have her character explained through her words and actions and not by her history. I had been toying with this idea, however, where she's a descendant of a clan of highly talented puzzle solvers, which I guess runs in her blood. With a talent like that, all sorts of organizations would want to take advantage of that, often in ways that aren't beneficial to the clan... Which is why her parents don't tell her about it. That doesn't have anything to do with why she doesn't want attention, though -- she just thinks fame leads to bad things.

lol that's a good back story.backstory to me, btw, doesn't mean traditional 'backstory'. It usually means something revealed throughout the story which of course makes it more enticing to read :D But buwaahahhaa her parents probably infused the idea that fame is bad into her at a very young age :p
